Mathias Baier - BassoonMathias Baier was born in Rostock, 1982 he started studying with Professor Fritz Finsch at the Berlin Musikhochschule "Hanns Eisler". Simultaneously he soon had the possibility to play as substitute and later as trainee in the Staatskapelle Berlin. Already at an early stage Mathias Baier was interested in chamber music and so he established 1984 the woodwind quintet "Kammervereinigung Berlin". This quintet won prizes on numerous national and international competitions (1988 Colmar, 1989 and 1993 ARD-Competition Munich, 1991 winner of the "Deutschen Musikwettbewerbes Bonn"). 1987 he won the first prize in the soloist category of the international music competition in Warsaw and even more important, he could start as principal bassoon player of the "Staatskapelle Berlin", a position that he still holds today. 1994 Mathias Baier was asked to join the orchestra of the Bayreuth Festival. Since then he annually participates with great pleasure and enthusiasm. 2005 he was appointed by the Hochschule of his birth town Rostock as bassoon teacher. He is member of different chamber music groups, like "Berliner Bläsersolisten", "Ensemble Blumina", "13 solo winds of bayreuth festival orchestra" and the chamber orchestra of the staatskapelle berlin "preussens hofmusik". As an teacher in the orchestra academy of berlin staatskapelle he helps young musicians on its way to be professional musicians.
